Statement regarding the shooting of Renee Nicole Good

I condemn in the strongest terms the murder of American citizen Renee Nicole Good by federal ICE agent Jonathan David Ross in Minneapolis after dropping her child off at a daycare. The taking of her life and others is unacceptable and demands full transparency and accountability. Reports and video footage show his aggression and the shooting was unnecessary and unprovoked. ICE agents also violated every code of conduct and humanity by blocking a doctor from providing immediate medical assistance to Renee Nicole Good.

An independent, impartial investigation must be conducted, and the ICE agent responsible for the shooting must be held accountable under state laws without any so-called blanket immunity for committing such a heinous act.

In Chicago, ICE’s version of events have repeatedly been proven false—and accountability must follow. Directly after the gunning down of Renee Nicole Good by the ICE agents in Minneapolis, ICE agents went to Roosevelt High School and attacked students and teachers as they walked into school, further violating rights of more American citizens.

The Trump administration’s militarization of ICE in American cities violates civil liberties. His actions and those of his collaborators have violated American due process and eroded our freedoms to the level of a third-world country.  We send our condolences and sympathy to the family and friends of Renee Nicole Good, especially her orphaned six year old son, as she tried to protect her community.
